Dogs make great companions, and there are even a few health benefits to owning one! It’s easy to decide you want a puppy, but are you ready for one?
Many people jump into dog ownership without doing the proper research, simply thinking they will figure it out as they go along, but that can set you and your new furry friend up for failure.
Here are four signs you are ready for a new puppy to enter your life!
1) You Are Financially Stable
This is probably one of the most important things to ensure before committing to a lifelong partnership with a dog. They are counting on you to supply them with the essentials they need to survive (plus the obvious extra toys and treats they deserve), which does cost a pretty penny. From routine vet checkups to the monthly food haul, you must ensure you have the funds to meet their needs.
2) You Have Time for Them
Dogs require your time and attention, especially if you are bringing home a puppy. They need to be trained, walked daily, and played with regularly. If you work long hours and can’t commit the time and energy it takes to take care of a dog, now might not be the time to get one. Your pet needs your full undivided attention and deserves a life where they can get the care they need to have a happy life.
3) Everyone in Your Home Is Onboard
It’s one thing for you to be ready to take on the responsibility of a dog, but if you live with others, they also need to be accepting and prepared to help. Whether that be your family members, a roommate, or significant other, you need to have a conversation with them ahead of time to discuss a plan and outline how each person will assist in taking care of your new furry friend!
Dogs can sense when people are resisting their energy and presence. Even if just one person in your household doesn’t want a dog around, your pup will sense that. Your dog deserves to be in an environment where everyone wants them around and loves them.
4) You’ve Done Research
There are many dog breeds you can choose from when searching for your perfect puppy, and they each have their own traits and characteristics. You need to research the different breeds you are interested in and decide which one will best fit you and your lifestyle.
