We love our pets but don’t love the allergy-causing dander and shedding that comes with them! If you are an allergy sufferer or have been recently diagnosed with a pet allergy, you may think you cannot have a pet, but that is not necessarily the case.
At Blue Star Labradoodles, our dogs are allergy- friendly! Our Multi-Generation Australian Labradoodles have been successfully living with allergy sufferers for years. They require regular grooming but are low to non-shedding, have little to no body odor, and their coats have special lanolin and self-cleaning properties.
If you don’t have an allergy-friendly pet, here are a few things you can do to help relieve your allergies!
Groom and Bathe Your Pet Regularly
A few times a week, take your animal outside and give them a proper brush through to remove any loose hair or dander they may have accumulated over time. Bathing your pet every one to two weeks can also help reduce the allergy load they’re carrying around. You can either do this at home or take them to a groomer.
Invest in an Air Purifier
HEPA air purifiers can reduce allergens floating in the air. This air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm). You can use them throughout your home or in the areas where your pet hangs out the most to help cut back on your allergy symptoms.
Clean Your Carpets Often
The key to reducing your allergy symptoms is to reduce the number of allergens in your home. Focus on the spots in your home that retain the most allergens, like carpets and rugs, and make sure you vacuum them at least once a week! Keep your pets off the furniture to reduce the number of places dander can embed itself.
Take Allergy Medication
You can take several medications to combat allergy symptoms, like antihistamines and allergy shots. Consult with your doctor on the best medication that is right for your body and your lifestyle.
